    Este texto trata sobre la figura de Diego Pérez de Mesa, astrólogo, matemático y orientalista español de los siglos XVI-XVII. De entre sus múltiples actividades, se señala su papel en la historia literaria de la leyenda de la Cueva de Salamanca, a partir del estudio del prólogo de su Tratado de la astrología judiciaria, que se encuentra manuscrito en la Biblioteca Tomás Navarro Tomás del CSIC (BTNT, ms. RM 3876). El artículo propone que este prólogo es la primera versión literaria moderna de dicha leyenda, y está en la base de la tradición posterior.

    This text deals with the figure of Diego Pérez de Mesa, a Spanish astrologer, mathematician and orientalist from the 16th-17th centuries. Among his many activities, his role in the literary history of the legend of the Salamanca Cave is highlighted, based on the study of the prologue of his Tratado de la astrología judiciaria, (Treatise on judicial astrology), which is found in manuscript at the Tomás Navarro Tomás Library of the CSIC (BTNT, ms. RM 3876). The article proposes that this prologue is the first modern literary version of the mentioned legend, and it is at the base of the later tradition.
