Se subraya la importancia que la década de los 30 tuvo para la cultura española del siglo XVIII tanto en el campo de las ciencias como de las letras. A diferencia de Italia, donde las iniciativas reformistas tuvieron un carácter disperso, fue la corte española la instancia que catalizó –y también la que frustró– muchos de los proyectos de los protagonistas de la primera Ilustración española. Entre las notas más destacadas del decenio se halla la apertura a Europa, el triunfo de la modernidad –de la filosofía y de la ciencia moderna, así como de la historia crítica– y la reivindicación de los más destacados literatos y humanistas del Siglo de Oro.

The importance that the 1730s had for the Spanish culture of the 18th century, both in the field of science and letters, is underlined. Unlike Italy, where the reformist initiatives were scattered, the Spanish court was the instance that catalyzed –and also the one that frustrated– many of the projects of the protagonists of the first Spanish Enlightenment. Among the most outstanding characteristics of the decade is the opening to Europe, the triumph of modernity –of modern philosophy and science, as well as of critical history– and the vindication of the most outstanding writers and humanists of the Golden Age.
