    La zooarqueología o arqueozoología es una disciplina mixta cuyo fin es el estudiode la paleofauna desde un punto de vista antrópico, estableciendo las relacionesentre los seres humanos del pasado y la fauna que les rodea. Esta es una disciplinamuy reciente y más aún cuando se enfoca en la relación entre los habitantes dela antigua Roma y su fauna silvestre y doméstica, el uso que daban a esta y la influenciade la globalización y la expansión del imperio en las asociaciones faunísticas.En España, la zooarqueología romana apenas cuanta con 50 años de historia,tiempo durante el cual los investigadores han intentado destacar la relevancia en el estudio de la fauna de la época. Sin embargo, el desarrollo de esta subdisciplinaha sido geográficamente asimétrica, con una significativa ventaja de las regionesdel norte, el este y el oeste de la Península Ibérica frente a las del sur. A travésde una revisión bibliográfica, se pretende llamar la atención de la relevancia dela zooarqueología romana en las regiones del sur de España y su importancia decara al futuro de la disciplina.

    Zooarchaeology or archaeozoology is a mixed discipline whose purpose is the study of palaeofauna from an anthropic viewpoint, establishing the relationships between humans of past ages and the fauna that surrounds them. This is a very recent discipline and even more so when it focuses on the relationship between the inhabitants of ancient Rome Empire and their wild and domestic fauna, the use they made of it and the influence of globalisation and the expansion of the Empire on faunal associations. In Spain, Roman zooarchaeology has barely 50 years of history, during which time researchers have tried to highlight its relevance in the study of the fauna of this period. However, the development of this sub-discipline has been geographically asymmetrical, with a significant advantage of the northern, western and eastern regions of the Iberian Peninsula over those in the south. Through a literature review, the aim is to draw attention to the relevance of Roman zooarchaeology in the regions of southern Spain and its importance for the future of the discipline.
