    Tradicionalment s’ha considerat que la contrarevolució en el Trienni (1820-1823) va ser un moviment tardà de resposta contra la implantació de la política liberal. L’estudi del motí popular que va tenir lloc a Saragossa el mes de maig de 1820 permet una aproximació a un fenomen diferent: la contrarevolució primerenca. Aquest motí, l’objectiu del qual era desafiar el poder destruint la placa constitucional, s’ha de relacionar amb el fracàs dels esforços fets per diversos sectors de l’antic règim per trobar la seva posició en el nou ordre sense perdre l’estatus de què havien gaudit fins llavors.

    The counterrevolution in the Triennium (1820-1823) was usually considered a late movement of response against the implantation of the liberal policy. The study of the popular riot that took place in Zaragoza in May 1820 allowed us to approach a different phenomenon: the early counterrevolution.

    This riot, whose objective was to challenge power by destroying the constitutional stone, reflects the failure of the efforts made by various sectors of the Old Regime to find their position in the new order without losing the status that they had enjoyed to date.
