El emperador siente: la dimensión humana de Constantino en el discurso oficial sobre el Augustus

Resulta incuestionable que Constantino se erige en tiempos tardorromanos en un referente en la representación oficial que se realiza de quien detenta el poder. Mucho se ha escrito y analizado sobre el modo y forma en que se ejecuta la construcción pública de su figura a través de instrumentos oficiales como los discursos encomiásticos, inscripciones, monedas, estatuaria o incluso legislación. Todos ellos fueron idóneos mecanismos para la transmisión de su imagen, incidiendo en la posesión de una serie de atributos y facultades que le legitimaban y le mostraban pertrechado de virtudes usualmente valoradas en el emperador romano. A tal propósito no sólo se emplearon ciertos epítetos que describían su figura, sino que también participó de esa intención el modo y forma en que se destacaron su lado humano y sus sentimientos, lo que puede observarse singularmente en dos de los vehículos oficiales utilizados: los panegíricos y las constituciones imperiales.
