Resumen de La real provisión en época moderna (Perú, siglos XVI-XVII): caracterización de un tipo diplomático

La Real Provisión fue uno de los principales tipos diplomáticos expedidos por las cancillerías regias, vinculada a la persona del monarca por elementos tan distintivos como la intitulación completa, solemne y mayestática, y el sello con sus armas reales. Esta vinculación hizo que la Real Provisión alcanzara una gran significación en Indias como un instrumento de poder utilizado por las autoridades representativas del monarca para hacer cumplir sus decisiones y dotarlas de mayor autoridad. El objetivo de este estudio es avanzar en el conocimiento de esta tipología diplomática a partir del análisis de las Reales Provisiones expedidas en Perú (siglos XVI y XVII) por las autoridades capacitadas para su expedición (Real Audiencia, Tribunal de Cuentas y virreyes). Para ello, en primer lugar, se reflexionará sobre el concepto “tipo diplomático” y sus elementos definitorios, a fin de calificar con precisión los documentos objeto de estudio. Una vez establecido qué entendemos por Real Provisión, se darán unas notas sobre su origen en la Castilla bajomedieval y de su proceso de elaboración en el distrito de la Audiencia de Lima. Por último, se abordará el análisis de las formas materiales y documentales que caracterizaron a este tipo diplomático.

The Royal Provision was one of the main diplomatic types issued by the royal chancelleries, linked to the person of the monarch by such distinctive elements as the full, solemn and majestic title, and the seal with his royal arms. This linkage meant that the Royal Provision attained great significance in the Indies as an instrument of power used by the monarch’s representative authorities to enforce his decisions and endow them with greater authority. The aim of this study is to advance our knowledge of this diplomatic typology by analysing the Royal Provisions issued in Peru (16th and 17th centuries) by the authorities empowered to issue them (Royal Audience, Court of Auditors and viceroys). To this end, first of all, we will reflect on the concept of “diplomatic type” and its defining elements, in order to accurately qualify the documents under study. Once we have established what we understand by Royal Provision, some notes will be given on its origin in late medieval Castile and its process of elaboration in the district of the Audiencia de Lima. Finally, the material and documentary forms that characterised this type of diplomacy will be analysed
