El martirio de franciscanos religiosos españoles y seglares japoneses junto con tresjesuitas ocurrido en Nagasaki (Japón) en 1597, no es un tema frecuentemente representado enel arte sevillano. Pero no sólo los religiosos sino también los terciarios de la orden, en concreto, les honraron en épocas pasadas encargando representaciones suyas. La mayoría de lasobras artísticas corresponden a pinturas y grabados de la época de la beatificación por la SantaSede, en 1627. Pero también otras se fechan en torno a la canonización en 1862.

The martyrdom of Spanish Franciscan priests and lay Japanese Catholics, togetherwith three Jesuits, which took place in Nagasaki (Japan) in 1597, is not a subject commonlydealt with in Sevillian art. However, at the time, paintings were indeed commissioned to honour both the priests and the laymen. These artistic works include paintings and engravingsfrom the time of their beatification by the Holy See, in 1627, while others date from aroundthe time of their canonization in 1862.
