La presente comunicación aporta una serie de documentos, muchos de ellos in-éditos, sobre las incidencias de los primeros viajes franciscanos al Japón, sus relaciones conlos jesuitas y con las autoridades locales. Se analiza el impacto del martirio de Nagasaki, lacambiante actitud de los emperadores japoneses sobre la evangelización cristiana de sus tierrasy las incipientes relaciones niponas con la Corona española.
This paper makes available a series of documents, many of them unpublished,which are related to the events that occurred during the initial visits made by Franciscans toJapan and their relations with the Jesuits and with the local authorities. We analyze the impactof the martyrdom at Nagasaki, the shifting attitude of the Japanese emperors towards theChristian evangelization of their lands and the emerging relationships between Nippon andthe Spanish Crown.
