Fray Diego de Estella fue un religioso franciscano, teólogo, humanista y escritorascético español del siglo XVI. En las décadas centrales del siglo fue nombrado predicadorde la corte y consejero del príncipe de Éboli. Sus obras más destacadas son el Tratado dela vanidad del mundo (1562), las Meditaciones devotísimas del amor de Dios (1576) y lasEnarrationes (1573), esta última de gran impacto espiritual en la época, corregida y suprimidadurante años por el Tribunal de la Santa Inquisición. En el siguiente estudio se analizará suvida y vinculación con la provincia seráfica de Santiago, de la cual fue miembro durante másde 25 años.
Friar Diego de Estella was a Franciscan religious, a theologian, humanist and asceticSpanish writer of the sixteenth century. In the central decades of the century he was namedcourt preacher and advisor to the Prince of Éboli. His best known works are the Treatise onthe Vanity of the World (1562), the Most Devout Meditations on the Love of God (1576) y theEnarrationes (1573); the last of these works had a great spiritual impact in his day and forsome years was subject to censorship and banned by the Tribunal of the Holy Inquisition. Thestudy which follows will analyze his life and his association with the Seraphic Province ofSantiago, of which he was a member for over twenty-five years.
