El siglo XVII español ha sido calificado por muchos historiadores como un períodode gran decadencia. Hubo, efectivamente, aspectos concretos de la vida y sociedad españolasque se caracterizaron por su decadencia. Entre ellos, los que se refieren a la economía y ala política. No se puede decir lo mismo respecto al arte, la literatura y la espiritualidad. Losmonasterios de clarisas fundados durante esta centuria fueron unos cien. En ellos florecieronimportantes Figuras carismáticas, que sobresalieron por sus dotes de gobierno, sus experien-cias místicas y sus dotes literarias. En esta comunicación se ofrece una lista de los monasteriosfundados y de las religiosas más sobresalientes por las razones que acabamos de apuntar.

The Spanish 17th century has been presented by many historians as a period ofgreat decadence. There were, in fact, specific aspects of Spanish life and society which werecharacterized by their decadence. Among them, those relating to the economy and to politics.It is not possible to say the same thing with regard to art, literature and spirituality. The monas-teries of nuns of the Order of St Clare founded during this century numbered approximatelyone hundred. In them there flourished important charismatic figures, that stood out by virtueof their administrative talents, their mystical experiences and their literary gifts. In this paperwe provide a list of the foundations and of the nuns who are most distinguished for the reasonsthat we have just noted.
