    El propósito de este artículo es recuperar la mirada de los indígenas fronterizos que participaron en las guerras civiles de la Independencia chilena bajo las banderas del rey. Los meridionales araucanos combatieron con valor junto al Real Ejército frente a los independentistas del norte durante años en diversos escenarios. Hicieron del sur un teatro de operaciones fiel al monarca, foco de resistencia y ofensiva de la causa del rey en la lejana frontera chilena. Protagonistas olvidados de la América española necesarios para comprender y reinterpretar un proceso de tanta trascendencia hispánica pasada y presente con ocasión de los Bicentenarios.

    The purpose of this article is to recover the gaze of the frontier natives who participated in the civil wars of Chilean Independence under the flags of the king. The southern Araucanians fought with courage together with the Royal Army against the independentists from the north for years in various scenarios. They made the south a theater of operations faithful to the monarch, a focus of resistance and offensive for the king's cause on the distant Chilean border. Forgotten protagonists of Spanish America necessary to understand and reinterpret a process of such past and present Hispanic transcendence on the occasion of the Bicentennials.
