    El Hospital de las Cinco Llagas de Sevilla es una isla dentro de la jurisdicción eclesiástica hispalense, directamente sujeta a Roma, vere nullius, el alter ego del Papa en el Hospital es el capellán administrador, él es el cura, quien ostenta la cura animarum, que es delegación de la cura de almas que el propio pontífice, representante de Dios en la Tierra, debe ejercer sobre el pueblo. La cura animarum es indelegable en sí, pero sí se pueden delegar funciones, el cura se puede servir de otros sacerdotes para hacer que su labor llegue donde su único cuerpo no se lo permitiría, delega funciones, no así la cura animarum, por tanto no hay más que un cura entre todos los sacerdotes. Lo mismo que ingresan los enfermos en el hospital para la sanación de sus cuerpos, mucho más importante es la sanación de sus almas, porque si no se puede salvar el cuerpo, hay que asegurar que el alma llegue al cielo y no se quede en el infierno ni penando en el purgatorio. Toda la actividad del Hospital va encaminada a conseguir estos dos objetivos la cura corporae y la cura animae, la sanación del cuerpo y la sanación del alma
