    Este trabajo ofrece un estado de la cuestión sobre la investigación de las fortificaciones señoriales en el territorio de la actual provincia de Huelva (España) y en la región del Algarve (Portugal), con una perspectiva transfronteriza y comparada.

    Se recoge y ordena la bibliografía existente, se valora el avance experimentado durante las dos primeras décadas del siglo XXI, y se comentan las aportaciones realizadas en el marco del proyecto de investigación “Las fortificaciones señoriales del suroeste: la huella documental”, en el que han participado todos los autores del presente volumen.

    This paper offers a state of the art on the research of lordly fortifications in the territory of the current province of Huelva (Spain) and in the Algarve region (Portugal), with a cross-border and comparative perspective. The existing bibliography is collected and ordered, the progress made during the first two decades of the 21st century is valued, and the contributions made in the framework of the research project “The lordly fortifications of the southwest: the documentary footprint” are commented. All the authors of this volume have participated in that project.
