El trabajo indaga la estrecha relación entre Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba (El Gran Capitán) y el italiano Bartolomeo d’Alviano, jefe militar de la influyente familia romana Orsini y hombre de armas al servicio de la República de Venecia. La colaboración entre ambas figuras resultó decisiva para la victoria española en la victoria del río Garellano (1503) que decretó el dominio de la monarquía de los Reyes Católicos en Reino de Nápoles. En este caso la amplia documentación manejada ha permitido definir con mayor precisión el cuadro de influencias y contactos que demuestra la plena vinculación que se creó entre el Gran Capitán y el contexto italiano a comienzos de las Guerras de Italia.

The paper analyzes the relationships established by Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba with the Italian “condottiero” Bartolomeo d’Alviano, military leader of the Roman noble family of the Orsini and a man of arms at the service of the Republic of Venice. The collaboration between the two captains was decisive in the battle of the Garigliano (1503), which allowed the definitive Spanish conquest of the Kingdom of Naples, and continued in the following years. Retracing these events, the paper intends to deepen the knowledge available around the multiple and reciprocal relationships that existed between Gonzalo Fernández and the world of the peninsula in the early years of the Italian Wars.
