Sobre la validez del género Butiobruchus Prevett, 1966 y propuesta de nueva caracterización (Coleoptera: Bruchidae).

    Se presentan los fundamentos para una restablecer la validez del género Butiobruchus Prevett, 1966, sinonimizado con Pachymerus Thunberg, 1805 por Nilsson y Johnson (1993), sobre la base de los caracteres distintivos de la morfología externa y de la genitalia masculina y femenina. Butiobruchus presenta caracteres externos exclusivos no presentes en Pachymerus y por otra parte, entre otros caracteres, la ausencia de yema en la genitalia masculina no es válida para separar estos dos géneros, ya que sólo está ausente en algunos ejemplares de Pachymerus cardo; por lo tanto, el género Butiobruchus, con su único miembro, B. bridwelli (Prevett), debería restituirse, sobre la base de sus caracteres morfológicos externos, singulares respecto a las especies del género Pachymerus.

    The foundations are presented for a restoration of the validity of the genus Butiobruchus Prevett, 1966, synonymised with Pachymerus Thunberg, 1805 by Nilsson and Johnson (1993), on the basis of the distinctive characters of the external morphology and the male and female genitalia. Butiobruchus presents exclusive external characters not present in Pachymerus and, additionally, among other characters, the absence of a gemma in the male genitalia is not a valid character to separate these two genera, since it is only absent in some specimens of Pachymerus cardo; accordingly, the genus Butiobruchus, with its only member, B. bridwelli (Prevett) should be restored, on the basis of its external morphological characters, distinctive with respect to all the species of genus Pachymerus.
