    Las mujeres cuyas inquietudes artísticas traspasaron el ámbito privado durante los siglos xviii y xix en España han sido incluidas en la Historia del arte bajo la denominación genérica de «pintoras de afición». Si bien el término en aquellos años carecía de las connotaciones negativas que hoy tiene, lo cierto es que, al revisar la historiografía, hasta bien avanzado el siglo xx casi ninguna mujer adquirió el estatus profesional de artista. Aunque un examen de la documentación de archivo contraviene en algunos casos esa clasificación general y genérica de aficionadas.

    Women whose artistic interests transgressed the private life during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in Spain have been included in the History of Art under the generic name «hobby painters». While the term in those years lacked the negative connotations it has today, the truth is that in reviewing the historiography until well into the twentieth century, almost no woman acquired the professional status of the artist. Although an examination of the documentation file contravenes in some cases that general and generic classification of amateurs.
