En el marco de la creciente atención prestada a la función militar y política de la nobleza en la España Moderna, este estudio reconstruye la trayectoria de Tomás José Cabanilles, tercer conde de Casal, gentilhombre de la Cámara de Carlos II, barón de las baronías de Alginet, Benisanó y Bolbaite y señor de Troya. Tras prestar servicios militares en Italia y Cataluña, las instituciones del Reino de Valencia- Ciudad, Generalidad y Estamentos del Reinole ofrecieron la plataforma para desarrollar una activa función política. Representa así al prototipo de noble que, gozando ya de un título nobiliario, armonizó la posición al frente de su Casa con los servicios al Reino y a la Corona.

Within the context of the growing interest in the military and political role of the aristocracy in Modern Spain, this study reconstructs the career of Tomás José Cabanilles, the Third Count of Casal, Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King Charles II of Spain, Baron of the baronies of Alginet, Benisanó and Bolbaite, and Lord of Troy. After performing military service in Italy and Catalonia, the institutions of the Kingdom of Valencia - the City, Generalidad and the Estamentos del Reino - provided him with a platform to develop an active role in politics. He therefore represents the prototype of a noble who, already possessing an aristocratic title, balanced his position at the head of his House with services to the Kingdom and the Crown
