La comida y el vestido son dos elementos narrativos presentes en numerosas obras literarias, y el Persiles cervantino no es la excepción, por lo general accesorios, que además de las funciones relacionadas con la construcción de una historia, indudablemente tienen una función de dar verosimilitud a la narración, pues son los elementos más evidentes y directos para relacionar una historia con un tiempo y un espacio determinados, pero además pueden tener otras funciones en la historia debido a significados simbólicos o ideológicos, o servir incluso para la caracterización de personajes, actividades como celebraciones o situaciones concretas en las cuales el vestido o el tipo de comida son definitorios. En este sentido, Cervantes desarrolla diversas formas estilísticas y constantes en relación con la comida y el vestido.

Eating and dress are two narrative elements that are in a great number of literary work, and the Cervantine Persiles is not the exception. Commonly the food and the dress are accessory elements in the construction of a plot or a story, but also have the function to give plausibility or credibility to the narration, because are the evident and direct elements to establish the relation of story with a concrete time and space. But these elements also can have another function in the novel because his symbolic or ideological meanings, or be useful for the characterization of a character or activities as celebrations or concrete situations in which the dress or the type of food are defining one. In this sense, Cervantes developed diverse stylistic forms and constants in relation with food and dress.
