La torre de la Calahorra es uno de los edificios más interesantes de Córdoba, pues sintetiza de forma muy elocuente la historia medieval de la ciudad. En este estudio exponemos las principales fases constructivas por las que ha pasado esta fortaleza y su entorno inmediato: desde la puerta que protegía el puente en época omeya, el recinto amurallado almohade que la rodeaba, la transformación del edificio en un castillo aislado tras la legendaria batalla del Campo de la Verdad, hasta su definitiva adaptación al uso de la artillería de pólvora a finales de la Edad Media. Cada una de estas fases responde a conflictos militares en los que el puente adquirió un especial protagonismo como elemento vital en la historia de Córdoba.

The Calahorra’s tower is one of the most interesting buildings in Córdoba, because it synthesizes in a very eloquent way the medieval history of the city. In this paper we expose the main constructive phases of this fortress and its immediate surroundings: the door that protected the bridge in the Umayyad period, the Almohad walled enclosure that surrounded it, the transformation of the building into an isolated castle after the legendary battle of the Campo de la Verdad, until its definitive adaptation to the use of gunpowder artillery at the end of the Middle Ages. Each of these phases responds to military conflicts in which the bridge acquired a special role as a vital element in the history of Cordoba.
