Al filo de 1968, el movimiento estudiantil en España había recorrido un largo camino en su en frentamiento con la dictadura franquista. Este hecho llevó a diversos autores a considerar el caso español esencialmente diferente del resto de movilizaciones de la época, y la influencia exterior más bien superficial. Sin embargo, la renovación en los estudios sobre la protesta universitaria en ese periodo ha cambiado esa visión, de manera que el caso español es visto ahora como un ejem plo más de la diversidad existente en el ciclo de protesta de los años sesenta. Se revisan aquí los origenes y evolución del disentimiento estudiantil y su interacción con las instituciones y organizaciones franquistas. Se destaca la diversidad del propio movimiento, como resultado de factores territoriales, ideológicos y de género. Al mismo tiempo, se muestra la relación entre este proceso de movilización y la atención que sus participantes prestaron a lo que sucedía en otros países, así como la imagen que de ellos se tenía en el exterior. Finalmente, se plantea cómo todo ello modeló su receptividad hacia los estímulos recibidos en 1968.

On the brink of 1968, the student movement in Spain had walked a long road in its confrontation with the Franco dictatorship. This fact drove several authors to consider the Spanish case as essentially different from the rest of mobilizations in the time, and the foreign influence rather shallow. However, the revamp of the studies on the university protest in that period has changed that view, with the result that the Spanish case is seen now as another example of the diversity existing in the protest cycle of the 1960s. The origins and evolution of the student dissent, and its interac tion with the Franco institutions and organizations are reviewed here. The internal diversity in the movement -caused by territorial, ideological and gender factors, is highlighted. At the same time, the paper deals with the relation between that process and the participants' attention to what was going on in other countries, as well as how they were seen abroad. Finally, it will be considered how all those issues shaped its receptivity to the stimuli received in 1968.
