Resumen de La modernización del Estado franquista y sus efectos

El objetivo de este trabajo es efectuar un programa de análisis sobre la modernización española durante el tercer cuarto del siglo XX a través del papel desempeñado por el Estado. Para ello se articula en dos fases: la primera se dedicará a explorar si se produjo o no una modernización ―siquiera mínima― de las es-tructuras del Estado a partir de los años cincuenta; tras ello, abordaremos la cuestión de las relaciones centro-periferia (esto es poder del gobierno central y la administración en las provincias) a través de la figura de los gobernadores civiles y el papel llevado a cabo por los mismos durante el período del crecimiento económico.

The aim of this article is to analyse the process of modernization experienced by Spain in the third quarter of the 20th century through the role played by the state and its administration. To this end, the following pages are divided into two sections. The first is devoted to exploring the modernization of state structures which took off in the 1950s. We then examine the relationship between centre and periphery in the context of the economic development of the 1960s. The study of these relations is tackled through an analysis of the figure of civil governors and their role inside the centralised structure of the Spanish state.
