    Estudiar la ciudad implica concepciones de la historia y la civilización urbanas que se mezclan con la práctica. Durante las últimas décadas la historia social se ha preocupado de reconstruir los espacios y los mecanismos en los cuales se originan, desarrollan y determinan las fisonomías individuales y sociales. Hoy nosotros nos interesamos por una “ciudad moderna” entre dos siglos y, tal interés, viene señalado en gran medida por el problema de la expansión de la “ciudad” de Cáceres en ese tiempo final de la modernidad. Nos interesa mucho conocer la ciudad y el mundo urbano, así ya desde hace tiempo se decía que “toda historia empieza por la geografía”; que “la ciudad es como espejo de la historia y fermento creativo”; que es la ciudad “lugar de contagio y de vida pública”; o, también, que “el aire de la ciudad nos hace libres”

    The study of the city implies the understanding of historic concepts and urban civilizations that are blended with the practice. Throughout the last decades, social history concerns have led to the reconstruction of the space and mechanisms in which individual and social features are created, latter evolved and determined.

    Today we take an interest in a “modern city” between two centuries, and such an engagement is mentioned in good measure by the problems of Cáceres “city” expansion in that final era of modernity.

    We are highly interested in knowing the city and its urban environment, as it has been said for a long time that “every history gets started by geography”, “the city is the history mirror and a creative ferment”, “the city is the place for contagion and public life”, or even that “the city air will set us free”
