The study of the most important late Pliocene and early Pleistocene large mammals collections from Southern Europe, Middle East and East Africa, has demonstrated a very important faunal connections between them. The finding of a group of evolved African taxa in the Lower Pleistocene of Europe -primates, carnivores and ungulates (hippos and ruminants)- in connection with the first dispersal of the genus Homo to the Old Continent, reveals a new paleoecological picture of this event.
