A raíz de la emancipación (1810-1825), los territorios que formaban parte del imperio colonial español de América dieron la impresión de querer apartarse de la madre patria para buscar modelos de desarrollo en el mundo anglosajón. A principios del siglo XX, empezó a formarse una tendencia opuesta, la que reivindicaba la latinidad de la América hispánica y su originalidad en relación con la otra América. Esta tendencia es la que parece más vigente a principios del siglo XXI.

As a result of their liberation (1810-1825), the territories that had formed part of the colonial Spanish empire of America appeared to wish to separate from the mother land, to look for models of development in the Anglo-Saxon world. At the start of the 20th century, the opposite trend started to appear, that which reclaimed the latinity of Hispanic America and its origins with regard to the «other» America. This tendency is that which appears to be currently in force at the beginning of the 21st century.
