    El turismo se está convirtiendo de forma progresiva en el motor económico de mayor pujanza de la República Dominicana. La vitalidad que este sector ha registrado en años precedentes ha influido de manera decisiva en índices de crecimiento del PIB anual, cercanos al 8%, situando al país en primera línea mundial en cuanto a niveles de crecimiento económico. Esta privilegiada situación y la cada vez más fuerte competencia surgida con los países del entorno, obliga a desarrollar una infraestructura capaz de asumir y ampliar la oferta turística y cultural para todos sus visitantes.

    El Puente sobre el Río Higuamo constituye un paso más en el proceso de mejora de la infraestructura viaria que conecta la ciudad de Santo Domingo con las zonas turísticas del levante dominicano. En esta obra singular se están utilizando tecnologías punteras (dispositivos antisísmicos especiales, tirantes desmontables, etc.), y está siendo ejecutada bajo estrictas medidas de control y seguridad. En este artículo se indican las principales características de dicha infraestructura y el estado actual de la obra.

    Tourism is progressively becoming the economic driving force of greater impact in the Dominican Republic. Over precedent years, its vitality has definitely influenced the annual GNP growth, close to 8%, placing the Country, in terms of its level of economic growth, first line worldwide. This privileged situation, along with the ongoing fierceful competition originated from surrounding Countries, forces the needs of infrastructure development, capable to assume and expand both the tourism and cultural offer for all its visitants.

    The bridge over the Higuamo River constitutes another step in the process of improvement of the road infrastructure connecting Santo Domingo City with the tourist zones of the eastern Dominican territory. In this singular project, state of the art technology (earthquake special protection devices, detachable stay cables, etc.) and it¿s being executed under strict control and security measures. In this article the main characteristics of such infrastructure are highlighted as well as the actual stage of the project.
