Abstract
El chalación es un problema muy frecuente de morbilidad en la consulta de oftalmología. No obstante no existe un claro consenso sobre su manejo con las diferentes opciones terapéuticas actuales. Como ha sido demostrado en diversos estudios el tratamiento del Chalazión con una o dos inyecciones intralesional de Acetónido de Triamcinolona (AT) constituyen un tratamiento eficaz y de seguridad similar a la incisión y curetaje (I&C) del mismo3-6, 8,12-14, 22, 24-26.Actualmente existe una tendencia al tratamiento quirúrgico del chalación, lo que acarrea un incremento en los costes de los servicios de sanidad pública al utilizar un quirófano y que podría disminuir al realizar el tratamiento con inyecciones de AT. Además, reduciría el tiempo de espera del paciente para la solución de su problema, la ansiedad generada por una intervención quirúrgica y disminuiría las listas de espera para la realización de otras intervenciones quirúrgicas. Este estudio nació con el propósito de comparar el coste y la efectividad de ambas opciones terapéuticas, dada la creciente importancia de los estudios de coste-efectividad en los sistemas nacionales de salud. Chalazion is a common morbidity in the ophthalmology practice. However there is no clear consensus on its management with the different current therapeutic alternatives. It has been shown in previous studies that the treatment of chalazion with one or two intralesional injections of triamcinolone acetonide (AT) is a similar treatment in efficacy and security as its incision and curettage (I&C)3-6, 8,12-14, 22, 24-26. Currently, there is a trend towards surgical treatment of chalazion, which leads to an increase in the costs of public health services. The cost of an operating room could be significantly reduced when performing the treatment with AT injection. Moreover, it would reduce the waiting time for the solution of the patient’s problem, their absence from work, the anxiety generated by a surgical intervention. Finally, it would reduce the waiting lists for the performance of other surgical interventions.This study was done with the purpose of comparing the cost and effectiveness of both therapeutic options, given the growing importance of cost-effectiveness and cost-utility studies in national health systems.
