Resumo: | Chronic pain is one of the leading causes of healthcare seeking. It is a multidimensional experience affected by biological, physiological, psychological, social, and contextual factors. In this doctoral thesis, we conducted a dose-response meta-analysis to assess the effect of alcohol consumption on chronic pain. Also, we evaluated the direct and indirect effects of depression on pain through sleep disturbance using a two-stage meta-analytic structural equation modeling. Furthermore, we conducted a cohort study to assess the impact of the health-related quality of life (well-being) on chronic pain incidence. Finally, we evaluated the causal role of covariates in the association between physical well-being and chronic pain through mediation analysis and stratum-specific analysis. |
