La Tesis doctoral está dividida en dos volúmenes. El primero es un estudio preliminar estructurado por medio de seis apartados sobre los conceptos de Historiografía y Humanismo, sobre Lipsio y su contexto histórico y científico. Se analizan en él los métodos críticos empleados por Lipsio y se describe cómo evolucionó la relación que mantuvo con el método humanístico de recuperar el mundo antiguo por medio de la depuración de sus textos literarios. También se estudian las concepciones humanísticas acerca de la Historia y se explican las relaciones que Lipsio entabló con el corpus de documentos legados por la Antigüedad. Se presentan, por último, los presupuestos teóricos, cronológicos y conceptuales empleados por Lipsio en los Admiranda para estudiar la Historia de Roma. El segundo volumen incluye la transcripción del texto latino de los Admiranda y una traducción original al castellano de la obra. Al pie del texto latino se han incluido dos apartados críticos. El primero ofrece las variantes que presenta el texto latino en sus tres ediciones conocidas (1598, 1599 y 1605). El segundo recoge la identificación de las fuentes antiguas citadas.

The present doctoral thesis has two volumes. The first one is a preliminary essay divided into 6 parts about the concepts of Historiography and Humanism and Lipsius and his historical and scientific context. This volume focuses on Lipsius� critical methods and it analyses Lipsius� relationships with the typically Humanistic way of recovering the Ancient world though the contextual critique. It offers a study on the Humanistic conception of History. I contend that it was the particular relationship between the humanists and the ancient literary corpus what gave birth to the modern concept of historical source. Finally this chapter looks into Lipsius� theorical, chronological and conceptual premises and the way he used them to study Roman history. The second volume contains the transcription of the Latin text of the Admiranda and its translation into Spanish. The Latin text has two different kind of footnotes: the first one gives the variant spellings of the Latin texts in the three editions that have survived: the second one includes the identification of the classical quotations.
