Abstract
elemento árabe, tanto lingüístico como de contenido, entra en el panorama mexicano The present study analyzes, firstly, the presence of the Arab community in Mexico during
the period of the migrations in the 19th and 20th centuries, and secondly their journalistic and
literaly contribution, that constitutes the true academic contribution of this thesis. The majority
of the first immigrants who arrived in Mexico knew neither the language nor the culture of the
receiving country and did not have adequate economic resources; only a minority came with
high levels of study. It was thus that the emigrants faced on the one hand to the process of
adaptation and later of integration in the new society and, on the other side, to the process of
preservation of the own identity. The fact of being a minority did not prevent the Arab
immigrants from integrate with some facility in the host society and in the thirties emerges a
generation of professionals in the political, artistic and literary Mexican life. It is this last group
and specifically the group of writers who emigrated to Mexico and that of their descendants,
which concerns the precise purpose of this study: to analyze the role of writers, protagonists of
the Mexican mahyar, and their descendants, now Mexican with arab heritage, within the
framework of the identity construction between the Arabs of the first generation and the
"Mexicanness" of the descendants. The results of the present investigation, in the first place, is
the reconstruction of the arrival and the insertion of the Arab community, outlining the
preponderant profile of the immigrant in Mexico. Secondly, through the analysis of different
literary works and of the newspapers that the Arab community published in Mexico, from the
end of the nineteenth century, the post-Mahyar concept was introduced as a hypothesis. The
post-mahyar theory refers to the descendants of the first generation, and unites them with those
of successive generations, and thanks to that, the Arabic element, both linguistic and content,
enters in the Mexican landscape
