    Auschwitz es uno de los fenómenos clave para comprender la historia del siglo XX. Ha devenido asimismo en sinónimo de límite: marca el límite epistemológico, el límite estético y el límite ético-político de la Modernidad. Es el lugar de la pérdida de inocencia de una Humanidad que adquiere conciencia trágicamente de sí misma como sujeto de derechos. Y es también el lugar de la memoria, cuando la memoria no sólo significa preservación, sino deber moral, y el olvido equivale a delito. A partir del ejemplo del testimonio de "Nuit et brouillard" (1955) de Alain Resnais se expondrán las dificultades intrínsecas a la representación del mal radical y a la constitución de una memoria histórica con un pasado que no permite reconciliación.

    Auschwitz remains one of the key phenomena for understanding the history of the 20th century. It has also become synonymous with a certain category of limit: it traces the epistemological, aesthetic, ethical and political limits of the Modernity. It is the place of the loss of innocence of the Mankind, which became tragically aware of its being the subject of special rights. It is also the place for the memory, when memory is not only preservation, but above all a moral duty, and forgetting turns to be a crime. Starting from the example of witnessing the Holocaust developed in "Nuit et brouillard" (1955) by Alain Resnais, the inherent difficulties towards a representation of radical evil are to be exposed, also the ones due to the constitution of a historical memory and the dealing with a past that does not admit reconciliation.
