Enquesta demogràfica 2007: nova font, noves dades sociolingüístiques

    Las informaciones que aporta esta nueva fuente demográfica, entre las dos operaciones censales de 2001 y 2011, son importantes, en primer lugar, porque reducen esta larga sequía de datos; en segundo lugar, porque permitirán muchas explotaciones teniendo el hogar como referencia, y, finalmente, porque por primera vez se obtienen resultados en una operación con preguntas de tradición censal sobre la lengua inicial y sobre las habilidades en castellano.

    El artículo enmarca esta nueva fuente estadística y relaciona las variaciones demográficas con las variaciones lingüísticas. Se centra en las habilidades lingüísticas de los extranjeros y en la lengua y el trabajo. Además, también aporta datos sobre la competencia lingüística en las otras lenguas oficiales de Cataluña: el occitano y el castellano. Finalmente, para concluir el artículo, por un lado, se realizan diferentes propuestas de estudios que habría que llevar a cabo en el futuro y, por otro, se pronostica cuál será la evolución de las habilidades lingüísticas en catalán de los extranjeros.

    The information contributed by this new demographic source, coming in the middle of the 2001 and 2011 census campaigns, is important, first of all, because it shortens this long drought of data; secondly, because it will allow for many conclusions based on the home as a point of reference, and lastly, because for the first time results have been obtained in an operation with traditional census questions on the respondents� initial language and their Spanish-language abilities.

    The article puts this new statistical source into context and establishes correlations between demographic and language variations.

    It focuses on foreigners� language ability and on language and work. In addition, it also provides data on language competence in the other official languages of Catalonia, Occitan and Spanish. Finally, in closing, it makes different proposals for studies that should be carried out in the future and forecasts what the development of Catalan-language skills among the foreign population will look like.
