Abstract

The case of Altea citadel and its traces as an example of a new vision of deffensive architecture as from the considerations that we understand as “the modern”, with the inclusion of the site condition as a determinant in the definition of form. The value of the influence of expert opinion and vision of Vespasiano Gonzaga on the work of the engineers of Antonelli’s family since 1573. The interest of the Altea citadel, as an example of adaptation to the place and its orography, in a new conception of what is understood as "the modern" at that time.
