Resumen de Informacion al paciente para mejorar el control de la emesis retardada

J. J. García Albás, P. Buil Lavilla, I. de la Maza Uriarte, Javier Casas Arrate, I. Paniagua Domínguez

  • Prevention of emesis delayed by cytostatic drugs has been less studied than that of acute emesis. Informative sheets directed to patients that begin treatment with cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, carboplatin and anthracyclins attempt to improve both nausea and vomit control. Within a preliminary period, from September 1999 to March 2000, patients registered in self-evaluation sheets the emetic episodes occurred 24 hours after the treatment and from days 2nd to 5th. Since March 2000 until February 2002, a pharmacist provided oral and written information regarding antiemetic medication (metoclopramide or metoclopramide plus dexamethasone) and the self-evaluation sheet. The response was evaluated by accounting for the amount of retching and vomiting; nausea was evaluated according to a scale of nothing, something, quite a lot and a lot. It has been found among the 55 patients from the second period a higher percentage of complete response to emetic episodes than that of those 38 patients from the first period, not being this difference of any statistical significance. Pharmaceutical care for the oncologic patient may contribute to the acceptance of an antiemetic pattern by means of a better knowledge and sensitivity about delayed emesis prevention
