Abstract

51
This paper examines the perception that the Italian journalists have about their profession. Built on a series of interviews, the study points out a contradiction between the statements of the journalists and what comes out from the analysis of their work. They perceive themselves as news disseminators, but the author’s interpretation of their tasks suggests that Italian journalists are advocacy-oriented. This attitude seems to be consistent with the tradition of journalism in the country and shows that the anglo-saxon radical democratic model is not valid for the profession in Italy.
