    Uno de los elementos que configuran el paradigma estético y comunicacional más importante de los libros ha sido la escritura, pues dependiendo de cómo se diseñen, compongan y armonicen los elementos tipográficos con el resto de componentes que conforman un libro, éste adquiere un valor más o menos formal, funcional, lúdico o artístico. Las siguientes páginas versarán en torno a esta idea, tomando como caso de estudio algunos diseños tipográficos más relevantes de la historia de la letra occidental, para acercarnos finalmente al concepto y praxis del libro-arte o libro de artista contemporáneo en el que la tipografía puede llegar a constituirse como el eje axiológico y configuracional de los libros.

    One of the elements that set the most important aesthetic and communicational paradigms of books has been the writing, because depending on how you design, how you compose and harmonize typographic elements with the other components, the book acquires more or less formal, functional, recreational or artistic value. The following pages will focus on this idea, taking as a case study some of the most highlight designs of western history, in order to approach to the concept and practice of book-art or contemporary artist's book, in which typography becomes an axiological and configurational axis of books.
