    Fernando Sasiain Brau (18 de junio de 1894 - 15 de noviembre de 1957), donostiarra de nacimiento, ha pasado a la historia del siglo XX por su liderazgo en el republicanismo español y por haber sido alcalde de San Sebastián durante la Segunda República. Es un personaje histórico a recuperar. Fue una de esas personas ilustres que tuvo la mala suerte de nacer en el momento equivocado y encontrarse en medio de unas circunstancias históricas que no correspondían a un hombre de talante dialogante y negociador. Luchó por un ideal -la República- que quedó pronto olvidado. Tampoco parece que el hecho de haber sido alcalde de Donostia y anfitrión del Pacto de San Sebastián le haya dado un mayor relieve... Y, por si fuera poco, finalizó sus días en una institución psiquiátrica. Doble motivo para �ser olvidado�: represaliado por sus ideas políticas y �enfermo psiquiátrico�. Ha llegado la hora de reivindicar su figura.

    Fernando Sasiain Brau (June 18, 1894 - November 15, 1957), born in San Sebastian, has passed into the history of the twentieth century for his leadership in Spanish republicanism and for having been mayor of San Sebastian during the Second Republic. He is a historical character whose story should be told. He was one of those distinguished persons who had the bad luck to be born at the wrong time and find himself in the midst of historical circumstances that did not suit a man of his disposition for dialogue and negotiation. He fought for an ideal -the Republic- which was soon forgotten. Nor does it seem that the fact of having been mayor of San Sebastian and host of the Pact of San Sebastián (considered the beginning of the Second Republic) gave him a higher profile ... And, last but not least, he ended his days in a psychiatric institution. A double reason to be �forgotten�: reprisals for his political views and for his �psychiatric patient� label. It�s time to reclaim his reputation.
