Las legationes de las ciudades y su regulación en los estatutos municipales de Hispania

    Las ciudades romanas se relacionaban con el emperador, los gobernadores provinciales y los particulares enviando delegaciones (legationes), formadas por miembros de las élites locales.

    Su composición y funcionamiento son cuestiones reguladas jurídicamente en las leyes municipales de la Bética. Desde tal perspectiva, este artículo examina los objetivos de tales embajadas, cómo se organizaban y quiénes estaban obligados a asumir tal carga (munus legationis). También se consideran otros aspectos, como el número de miembros, la financiación y el control oficial sobre la frecuencia y fines de las legationes. En la segunda parte se estudian los viajes de los legati, cómo actuaban en su destino, la rendición de cuentas ante el senado municipal, y los honores que recibían quienes desempeñaban tal función.

    Roman cities used to associate with the emperor, the provincial governors and other individuals by sending delegations (legationes) made up of members of the local elites. Their composition and how these legationes worked are issues legally regulated in the municipal charters of Baetica. From this perspective, the article also analyzes the objectives of these embassies, how they were organized and who were obliged to assume this task (munus legationis). It also aims to approach other aspects such as membership, funding, and the official control of the frequency and purposes of the legationes. Finally, it examines the trips of the legati, how they acted in their destinations, their ways of reporting to the municipal senate, and the honours they received for it.
