Vandals, Alans, Sueves and Visigoths, the barbarians who settled in Hispania during the fifth century, were for the Hispano-Romans an alternative to the Roman power, in which many trusted and laid their hopes, especially when the Roman Empire revealed itself unable to keep its hegemony in this territory. This barbarian option, however, was limited, as although the barbarians had military supremacy, they did not know how to set up their own government system, different to the Roman one. They just took advantage of the remains of the Roman administrative system, without solving its deficiencies and extending its agony. As a result, their governments were ephemeral and easy to remove.
