La maternidad en la red: el caso de las madres solteras por elección

Abstract

Este texto se basa en una investigación cualitativa sobre las mujeres que deciden ser madres solteras, bien mediante la adopción, bien a través de Técnicas de Reproducción Asistida. En él se describen y analizan, de un modo diferencial y desde una perspectiva de género, la presencia e importancia que la maternidad y el proceso de consecución de la misma tienen en estas mujeres, y cómo se visibilizan y coordinan en aquellos espacios de la Red (foros principalmente) que han habilitado para sí mismas, así como las ambigüedades y paradojas que conlleva su propia imagen social y la legitimación de su conducta. Las Nuevas Tecnologías dan lugar a un espacio de información, aprendizaje, discusión y empoderamiento al tiempo que crean redes femeninas de solidaridad e intercambio.

This text is based on qualitative research on women who decide to be single mothers, either through adoption or through assisted reproduction techniques. It describes and analyzes, in a differential mode and from a gender perspective, the presence and importance of motherhood and the process of achieving that end for these women and how they coordinate and make visible in those Internet spaces (forums mainly) qualified by themselves. It is also analyzed the ambiguities and paradoxes associated with their social image and the legitimation of their behaviour. New technologies give rise to an information, learning, discussion and empowerment space while building women’s networks of solidarity and exchange.
