Resumen de La necesidad de unificar la psicología: el paradigma de la sintesis experimental del comportamiento

  Se analizan los orígenes de la psicología en las preocupaciones iniciales del hombre acerca de su comportamiento y del de las demás personas. Tales problemas interesaron a pensadores tan disímiles como Aristóteles, Kant, Wundt, Freud, Watson, Piaget y Skinner. El paso de los problemas psicológicos de la metafísica a la ciencia representó una importante revolución conceptual. En psicología se ha enfatizado en los últimos cien años la objetividad científica y la experimentación. Una de las alternativas más importantes desde el punto de vista metodológico ha sido el operacionalismo, cuyos elementos positivos y negativos se analizan. Las �escuelas� psicológicas �análogas a los paradigmas de Kuhn� han representado diferentes marcos conceptuales sobre la naturaleza de la psicología.

  Hoy no hay escuelas sino sistemas, más reducidos y menos dogmáticos. Se considera que la síntesis experimental del comportamiento, cuyas características se presentan, puede llegar a ser un paradigma unificador para toda la psicología.

  The origins of psychology as a concern for understanding our own behavior and the behavior of other persons, is analyzed. The problems of �mind� and behavior were central in the work of Aristotle, Kant, Wundt, Freud, Watson, Piaget and Skinner. The philosophical emphasis was complemented by a scientific emphasis on the study of mind and behavior, that began over a hundred years ago. In the last century, psychology has given central relevance to scientific objectivity and experimentation. The paper presents the development of psychology from its philosophical roots to the contemporary scientific status. The �schools� of psychology are considered analogous to Kuhn´s paradigms, and are conflicting ways of understanding the problems of behavior and mind. Today there are no �schools � of psychology, but �systems� of psychology , less dogmatic and less global. The experimental synthesis of behavior is presented as a unifying paradigm for psychology. The advantages of a unified psychology are indicated.The experimental synthesis of behavior is in tune of the new century emphasis on convergency and unity.
