Resumen de Changing future teachers' perceptions of scientists using digital storytelling

Hanna Kim

  • Students' images of scientists are often influenced by the common stereotype of a white male wearing a lab coat and glasses. Teachers' views of science and scientists may influence those of the students they teach. It is therefore important that any intuitive perceptions held by trainee teachers of scientists as white males are corrected. In this study, trainee teachers were asked to create digital stories using computer-based multimedia during a secondary science education course at a university. Their digital storytelling projects gave them an opportunity to learn about many outstanding female and minority ethnic scientists, either forgotten or ignored, from the time of the Ancient Greeks to the 21st century.
