Resumen de Experiencia y comprensión: concepciones sobre el trabajo en menores que trabajan en la calle en la Ciudad de México

  Se reporta un estudio sobre las concepciones de menores mexicanos que trabajan en la calle, acerca de cómo definen su trabajo y las circunstancias en que lo realizan, así como el sentido y valoración que le otorgan. Fueron entrevistados para identificar cambios en los niveles de explicación, según su edad y experiencia, aunque no se aprecia una evolución clara en las respuestas. La mayoría define su trabajo por sus consecuencias y uso, lo que remite a la satisfacción de las necesidades de subsistencia, aunque también destaca la noción de ayuda a la familia. La mayoría prefiere trabajar a no hacerlo y, aunque planean dedicarse a otra actividad que les reditúe más dinero, casi no mencionan a la escolaridad como posibilidad de ascenso social. A pesar de que muchos se autodefinen ¿pobres¿, muy pocos manifestaron conciencia sobre los derechos del niño o mencionaron posibles factores socioestructurales asociados con la pobreza.

  The article reports on a study of the conceptions held by Mexican minors who work in the streets: their definition of their work and the circumstances in which they work, as well as the meaning and value they attach to their work. The minors were interviewed to identify changes in their levels of explanation, according to their age and experience, although no clear evolution is seen in their responses. Most of the participants define their work in terms of its consequences and use: reference is made to the satisfaction of their basic needs, although the notion of helping the family is also emphasized. Most prefer working over nonworking, and although they plan to devote themselves to more profitable activities, they make almost no mention of school as a possibility for social improvement. Although many define themselves as ¿poor¿, very few showed awareness of children¿s rights; nor did they mention possible socio-structural factors associated with poverty.
