En este estudio se ha tratado de rectificar una interpretación etimológica incorrecta del topónimo uerruga, que condujo a un error en relación con la historia del Valle de Fenar. Este topónimo aparece en el Fuero de Fenar, en el año 1042, como nombre del lugar donde debían reunirse los concejos del citado valle. El topónimo uerruga no procede del latino verruca, "altura, altozano", sino de la voz celta olca, "campo feraz", que dio en castellano huerga. Subsidiaramente se estudia también aquí el topónimo Brugos, que no procede del latino verruca, "altozano", como se ha afirmado, sino de la voz céltica *vroicos, "brezo", latinizada en brucus.

In this study we have tried to rectify an incorrect etymological interpretation of the toponym uerruga, which led to a mistake related to the Fenar valley history. This toponym appears in the Fuero de Fenar, in 1042, as the name of the place where these valley councils would meet. The toponym uerruga is not derived from the latin verruca, "height or high place", but from the Celtic voice olca, "fertile field", which in Spanish became huerga. We have also studied the toponym Brugos, which is not derived from the Latin voice verruca, "height or high place", as it has been stated above, but comes from the Celtic word *vroicos, latinized into Brucus.
